Tori Bowie checked plenty of boxes as she dominated a loaded field at the Prefontaine Classic.

TB set the women’s 200m meet record at 21.77 seconds as she blazed past the 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalists in the 200m, Elaine Thompson and Daphne Schippers, as well as the 400m gold and silver medalists, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Allyson Felix. The Sand Hill, Mississippi native edged Marion Jones’ mark of 21.81 seconds, set in 1999, while breaking her own personal best.

“I tried to go out there and just run by myself,” Tori said. “I knew my purpose here was all about coming out of training and being in my own zone.”

The laid back small-town girl approached a race in a way only she could, viewing an Olympic rematch against the very best sprinters in the world as just a training session for the upcoming USATF Outdoor Championships in late June.

“I knew for a fact that I could go out there and have a chance to win,” Tori said. “My coach made it clear that we were just training for nationals. No pressure at all.”

With no pressure holding her down, the adidas sprinter bolted off the blocks and never looked back, using a strong start from Lane 7 to comfortably outpace the field.

Now, Tori sets her sights on Sacramento for the U.S. national championships June 22-25.
